Dave Mathews Tribute Band

We here at the Howlin Wolf Northshore have become quite the lovers of the tribute band. Especially when they pack almost the same punch as the original, or in the case of Frontier: The Journey Tribute Band, they are almost better than the original.

While being better than Dave Matthews is nearly impossible, the Dave Matthews Tribute Band definitely puts forth a stunning re-creation of Dave's hits. Don't believe me? Check 'em out:

Next to the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, Dave Matthews probably has the most tribute bands in existence, and the Howlin Wolf Northshore is proud to have the best!!! The Dave Matthews Tribute Band will be gracing us with their presence on October 10th, and so should you!!Stumble Upon Toolbar

Coscino

With the presence of the new Internet age well at hand and a way to connect with fans like never before, bands are allowed to be who they truly are. If you want to be a Speed Metal Polka band that plays nothing but covers of Aja songs...well there is probably a small group of fans out there that are into what you are playing. What this has led to is a million little sub-genres of music and bands that answer the question of, "What kind of music do you play?" with "Oh, well we are a post-punk, screamo, grind, thrashcore band, with a nu metal kind of thing happenin."

My question is, "Where are the ROCK bands?" Just Rock, only Rock, and nothing but the Rock! In an age of flavored everything, I want black coffee, a plain donut, a regular cigarette, and a REAL ROCK BAND!!!

That's where Coscino comes in. A collection of guys who have lived, breathed, eaten, and poo'ed Rock since they were old enough to hold a guitar pick or drumsticks. Cut them and nothing comes out...cause it's just Rock in there!

Well, I've ranted enough, but if you're like me and you're missing the days of "That Old Timey Rock and Roll" come on out to the Howlin Wolf Northshore and catch a band that has been waving the Rock flag in Louisiana for decades.

The show is on Saturday, October 3rd. The show will open with 3rd Echo, another local crew who is bringing Rock back to the forefront.

You can buy tickets to the show here.Stumble Upon Toolbar

Bonerama

On one particularly hard-drinkin' night out in New Orleans (when I first moved here) I ended up bowing out gracefully while my friends carried forth to the Maple leaf, which just so happened to be stumbling distance from my house. The next memory I have of that evening is my friends banging at my door at 5 o'clock in the morning. The only words that they could muster in their collectively plastered state of mind was, "four trombones!!!"

"What are you talking about," I replied.
"Dude, you don't understand (almost falling over).....FOUR TROMBONES.......it was awesome!!!"

It took me awhile but I figured out that they were referring to the band that they just seen at the Maple Leaf. None of them could remember the name of the band that night, or the next morning, but they could remember the overall awesomeness that they had experienced.

It wasn't until I was out stumbling into some random bar that I placed the name Bonerama with what my friends could only describe as, "FOUR TROMBONES!!!"

Bonerama has been flailing their trombone assault on New Orleans for almost a decade. They currently have five releases of mostly live material. Much like any other brass band the real experience is in seeing them live, and on September the 25th the Northshore will have the opportunity. The Howlin Wolf Northshore will be presenting a bonerific evening that will funk you up fo' sho'.

Dirt: Alice in Chains Tribute

There were few bands that emerged from the 90s Seattle grunge scene that rocked as hard as Alice in Chains. Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell quickly became the backbone for the grunge movement alongside Pearl Jam and Nirvana however, their reign at the top was constantly hindered by Layne's problems with drug abuse. In 1997 I missed seeing them live, but my friends who did said that Layne spent most of the concert lying down on the stage floor in a incoherent heroin nod.

Sadly, Layne never regained control of his addiction and was found dead in his apartment of an overdose of heroine and cocaine in 2002.

Jerry Cantrell has since moved on with the original members of Alice in Chains to release a couple of solo albums. Recently, the band has been putting the finishing touches on their first release as Alice in Chains since Layne's death. The album "Black Gives Way to Blue" is set to be released later this year and surprisingly features Elton John on the title track.

While we cannot bring you the original lineup of Alice in Chains, the Howlin Wolf Northshore can provide the next best thing. Dirt: Alice in Chains Tribute will be performing September 11th. If you were ever a part of the flannel militia in 90s, this is a show not to be missed!

Here's a little sample of what you have in store:
